Printers are managed on the Printers page. Copy room staff can see it and record paper levels. Only administrators can add, re-address or remove a device.
Adding a printer
- Choose Add printer.
- Name: what people in the copy room call it.
- Address: an IP address is enough. KyberCopy completes it to
ipp://…/ipp/print. - Location, for example "Central Copy Room".
- Relay: the agent on your network that can reach this printer.
Nothing else is typed in. The relay reads what the printer can do directly from the device: sides, colour, paper sizes, trays, staple and punch options. Until that read happens the card says "Waiting for a relay to read this printer's capabilities" and the printer cannot accept jobs. Afterwards the card shows tags such as Double-sided, Colour, and each finishing option, with Read from device and a time. Capabilities are refreshed by the relay when stale.
Use Test to ask the relay to contact the printer now. The relay also checks each printer about every two minutes for a status light.
Paper loaded
Open a printer's configuration to record what is in each tray: tray, label, paper size (Letter, Legal, Ledger / Tabloid), type (Plain, Cardstock, Labels, Transparency, Envelope), a colour swatch and level. Jobs are routed to a tray by what you record here, so keep it current. Until trays are recorded, jobs cannot be routed to this printer.
Changing a printer's address clears what KyberCopy knows about it and the relay reads it again.
Supplies
The Supplies link on the Printers page shows toner and paper levels reported by the printers themselves, not estimated. Order these lists anything at or below its low threshold. A device's own threshold is used when it publishes one; otherwise 15 percent. A reading older than six hours is marked stale. Printers that do not publish consumable levels appear under Not reporting supplies.
Silent substitutions
Some printers accept a job and quietly change a setting without saying which. When the relay sees that happen, KyberCopy records it against the printer and stops offering that option on that machine. The printer card then says: "This printer claims [option] but was observed not to apply it. Those options are no longer offered for this device." The event is also written to the job history. See A job printed with different settings than I chose.
Removing a printer
Removal is confirmed by a slide. Its tray and supply readings go with it, and presets that defaulted to it need a new default. A printer with live jobs cannot be removed.
