Some printers accept a job and quietly change a setting, for example ignoring a staple or printing single-sided, without saying which setting they changed. The printer reports success, so nothing looked wrong until the paper came out.
What KyberCopy does about it
When the relay sees a printer answer that it substituted or ignored an attribute, KyberCopy records that against the printer and stops offering that option on that machine. On the Printers page the card then says "This printer claims [option] but was observed not to apply it. Those options are no longer offered for this device." A line is also added to the job's history.
From then on, a preset that needs that option is reported as not printable on that printer, and a teacher who picks that printer sees the reason at submit time, for example "This printer reports Staple top-left but was observed not to apply it. Choose another printer or finish by hand."
What to do with the job that came out wrong
- Open the job in the queue and check Show history to confirm a substitution was recorded.
- If another printer can do the job, use Change settings under Check before printing if needed, or reprint it on the other machine.
- If no printer can do it, use Print by hand to take it off automatic printing and finish it manually, then Mark printed with the sheets used.
Check the preset
Open Presets and save the preset again. KyberCopy re-checks it against every printer and tells you "N of M printers can do this" with reasons. If the everyday preset now fails on your main printer, change the preset or its default printer.
If the setting was wrong before it reached the printer
Settings are frozen at submit from the preset plus any teacher choices, validated against the printer. If a copy room tech used Change settings before releasing, that is in the job history too. The Review tab in Copy room settings controls whether techs may change settings before releasing.
