Overview
KyberClassroom includes a built-in chat feature that lets teachers communicate with students during class — either privately (1-on-1) or as a broadcast to the entire class. It's designed for quick, in-context communication without disrupting the learning environment.
Prerequisites
- Teacher account in KyberClassroom with at least one class
- Students on managed devices connected to KyberGate
- An active class session
- Chat enabled by the district IT administrator (enabled by default)
Steps
Step 1: Open the Chat Panel
Log in to teachers.kybergate.com, select your active class, and click the Chat icon (speech bubble) in the class toolbar.
Step 2: Send a Private Message (1-on-1)
- Click on a student's name in the chat panel
- Type your message
- Press Enter or click Send
The message appears only on that student's screen. Other students cannot see it.
Examples:
- "You seem stuck on question 3 — try re-reading the second paragraph."
- "Please close the YouTube tab and get back to the assignment."
- "Great work on your essay intro!"
Step 3: Send a Broadcast Announcement
- Click Broadcast at the top of the chat panel
- Type your message
- Press Enter or click Send to All
The message appears as a banner on every student's screen for 15 seconds.
Examples:
- "? 5 minutes remaining on the quiz!"
- "Save your work and close Chromebooks for discussion."
Step 4: View Chat History
Scroll up in the chat panel to see previous messages. After class ends, history is archived and visible to the teacher and IT admins.
Tips
- Private chat is ideal for shy students who won't raise their hand
- Use broadcasts for transitions and reminders
- Keep messages short and clear
- Chat works across all device types
- Chat messages don't persist after the class period — each class starts fresh
