Finishing steps: lamination, binding and other hand services

Some work needs a person after printing: laminating, binding, cutting. KyberCopy calls these hand-finishing services. No printer ever sees them.

How a teacher asks for them

On the request form, under Anything done by hand?, the teacher ticks the service, enters how many, and can add a detail such as "Just the cover page". Each service has a unit (sheet, document or job), and may have a turnaround time and a maximum per request. The teacher sees these on the form.

If your school charges back for printing, the form shows what the finishing adds to the cost.

What happens in the queue

A job with finishing steps is not finished when it comes off the printer. Thirty copies sitting at the laminator are not ready for collection, so the teacher is not told the job is done until the finishing is marked done. The "job printed" notification fires at that point, not when the printer stops.

Finishing work appears on the Finishing page, the station board, as soon as the job is submitted. Items still at the printer are listed under Still printing and cannot be started yet. See Stations and the station board.

Email requests

When a teacher asks for laminating or binding in an email, KyberCopy cannot add it automatically. The request is put on hold with a note starting "COULD NOT DO" so a person reads it and adds the step or contacts the teacher.

Turning it on or off

An administrator controls this in Copy room settings, on the Requests tab, with Track hand-finishing steps. It is on by default.
