How KyberPulse safety monitoring works

KyberPulse monitors student browsing for safety signals — self-harm, cyberbullying, violence, and substance abuse.

How It Works

KyberPulse analyzes search queries and browsing patterns in real-time. When it detects keywords or patterns associated with student safety concerns, it creates an alert.

Alert Categories

  • Self-Harm — Searches related to suicide, self-injury, eating disorders
  • Cyberbullying — Patterns indicating a student is being bullied or is bullying others
  • Violence — Searches for weapons, school violence, threats
  • Substance Abuse — Drug-related searches, vaping, alcohol

Alert Severity

  • Critical — Immediate attention required (self-harm, violence threats). Triggers instant notification.
  • High — Concerning pattern detected. Review within the same day.
  • Medium — Worth monitoring but not urgent.

What Happens When an Alert Fires

  • The alert appears in the KyberPulse dashboard
  • Configured recipients receive an email notification
  • The alert includes the student identifier, search query or URL, timestamp, and category
  • No page content is stored — only the URL and metadata

Important

KyberPulse is a tool to assist trained staff — it does not replace professional counselors or threat assessment teams. Always follow your district's established protocols for student safety concerns.
