Overview
KyberGate Parent gives parents three powerful controls over their child's school device: Pause Internet, Block Sites, and View Activity. These controls work alongside the school's filtering policies — parents can add restrictions but cannot override or weaken the school's protections.
Prerequisites
- KyberGate Parent app installed and linked to your child
- Your child's school device must be online
- Parent controls enabled by the school district
Steps
Pausing the Internet
- Open the KyberGate Parent app
- Select your child's profile
- Tap Pause Internet
- Choose a duration: 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, or "Until I resume"
- Tap Pause
The device will show: "Internet paused by parent. Focus on what matters."
To resume, tap Resume Internet.
Blocking Specific Sites
- Open the app → Select your child
- Tap Block Sites
- Enter the domain (e.g., "youtube.com")
- Tap Block
The site is immediately blocked. To unblock, go to Block Sites → My Blocked Sites → tap X.
Important: You cannot unblock sites that the school has blocked. Your block list only adds restrictions.
Viewing Activity
- Open the app → Select your child
- The Activity Feed shows recent websites with domain, timestamp, category, and duration
- Tap any entry for details
- Use Filter by date range, category, or time of day
Screen Time Charts
- Tap Screen Time to see daily totals, category breakdown, weekly trends, and most-visited sites ranked by time spent
Tips
- Use Pause Internet during homework time to eliminate browsing distractions
- Block sites proactively before they become habits
- Check Activity weekly — look for patterns rather than individual pages
- If you see concerning activity (self-harm, bullying, violence searches), contact your school immediately
- Parent controls only affect the school device, not personal devices
FAQ
Q: Can I see exactly what my child types? A: The feed shows websites visited and search queries. It does not show keystrokes, chat messages, or document contents.
Q: Do my blocks apply during school hours? A: Yes. Your block list applies 24/7 on the school device. Teachers can temporarily override with a Teacher Override if needed for a lesson.
Q: Can I set a daily screen time limit? A: Screen time limits are on the roadmap. Currently, use Pause Internet to enforce breaks manually.
Q: Will I get alerts if my child searches for something dangerous? A: Yes, if Safety Alerts are enabled by your school. You'll receive push notifications for concerning searches.
