Chromebook extension installation via Google Admin

Install the KyberGate Chrome extension on managed Chromebooks through Google Admin Console.

Prerequisites

  • Google Workspace for Education admin access
  • Managed Chromebooks enrolled in Google Admin

Step 1: Open Google Admin

Go to admin.google.com > Devices > Chrome > Apps & Extensions > Users & Browsers.

Step 2: Add the Extension

  • Click the + button > Add Chrome app or extension by ID
  • Enter the KyberGate extension ID (provided by your KyberGate admin)
  • Set Installation Policy to "Force install"

Step 3: Configure Managed Policy

Click on the extension and add this managed policy JSON:

{ "orgId": { "Value": "YOUR_ORG_ID" }, "proxyUrl": { "Value": "https://proxy.kybergate.com" }, "filterEnabled": { "Value": true } }

Step 4: Assign to OUs

Apply the configuration to the Organizational Units containing your student Chromebooks.

Step 5: Wait for Sync

Chromebooks will install the extension on next policy sync (usually within 15 minutes). Students will see the KyberGate shield icon in their Chrome toolbar.

What the Extension Does

  • Intercepts web requests and checks against your org's policies
  • Shows a branded block page for blocked content
  • Reports browsing activity to your dashboard
  • Supports device lock and push URL commands
  • Runs silently — students can't disable or remove it
