Setting up your first filtering policy

Policies define what gets blocked and what gets through. KyberGate comes with sensible defaults, but you'll want to customize them for your school.

Using a Template

The fastest way: go to Policy Manager and click "Use Template." We offer 6 pre-built templates:

  • Elementary — Most restrictive. Blocks social media, gaming, video streaming, and adult content.
  • Middle School — Moderate. Blocks adult content, gaming, and social media. Allows educational video.
  • High School — Permissive. Blocks adult content and known dangerous sites. Allows most educational resources.
  • BYOD — For bring-your-own-device programs. Basic safety filtering only.
  • Staff — Minimal filtering. Blocks adult content only. Full internet access for teachers.
  • Testing — Ultra-restrictive. Whitelist mode for standardized testing periods.

Creating a Custom Policy

  • Go to Policy Manager > click "New Policy"
  • Name your policy and select blocked categories (Social Media, Gaming, Adult Content, etc.)
  • Add specific domain blocks or allows
  • Set a schedule (e.g., block social media during school hours, allow after 3 PM)
  • Choose which devices or user groups this policy applies to
  • Save and activate
